Lymphatic Drainage
Services | Face
The lymphatic system is an important part of the body’s immune system that helps to protect us from infections and diseases. Lymphatic drainage is the process by which lymphatic fluid, which is a clear fluid that contains immune cells and waste products, is transported through the lymphatic vessels and eventually returned to the bloodstream.
Lymphatic drainage occurs in a series of lymph nodes that are strategically located throughout the body such as:
- Face
- Neck
- Arms
- Abdomen
- Upper Back
- Legs
The lymphatic vessels carry the lymphatic fluid from the tissues and organs to the lymph nodes, where it is filtered and purified. The lymph nodes contain immune cells that help to identify and destroy any foreign or harmful substances, such as bacteria or viruses, that may be present in the lymphatic fluid.
Once the lymphatic fluid has been purified in the lymph nodes, it is returned to the bloodstream through the thoracic duct, which is the largest lymphatic vessel in the body. The thoracic duct runs from the abdomen to the neck, where it empties into the left subclavian vein.
Lymphatic drainage is important for maintaining a healthy immune system and for preventing the buildup of excess fluid and waste products in the body’s tissues. It can be stimulated through various techniques, which can help to improve lymphatic flow and promote overall health and well-being.
